Chandigarh, June 24, 2026: The Centre has assured adequate availability of Urea and DAP fertilisers for Punjab during the ongoing Kharif 2026 season, according to a statement issued by the Punjab BJP on Tuesday.
The party said the assurance came in response to concerns raised by Punjab BJP President Kewal Singh Dhillon with the Union Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers earlier this month regarding fertiliser availability for farmers.
Citing a communication from the Ministry dated June 23, the BJP stated that Punjab has been provided 11.45 lakh metric tonnes (MT) of Urea and 1.80 lakh MT of DAP, against the state's pro-rata requirement of 9.87 lakh MT and 1.11 lakh MT respectively.
According to the figures shared in the statement, Punjab currently has stocks of 4.27 lakh MT of Urea and 98,000 MT of DAP. Additional stocks of 36,000 MT of NPKS and 89,000 MT of SSP are also available.
In the statement, Dhillon said the Centre had responded promptly to the issue and maintained that sufficient fertiliser stocks were available for the state. He urged the Punjab Government to ensure timely distribution of fertilisers to farmers at the grassroots level during the peak sowing season.
The BJP also said that state authorities are empowered under existing laws to monitor fertiliser distribution and prevent hoarding, black marketing and overpricing.
The development comes amid growing focus on ensuring uninterrupted fertiliser availability for farmers during the Kharif cropping season.
