Chandigarh, July 3, 2026: The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) has submitted a written complaint to the Punjab Director General of Police (DGP), seeking registration of an FIR against Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann over a viral video that it alleges hurt Sikh religious sentiments.
The complaint was submitted on Friday by an SGPC delegation to Special Director General of Punjab Police Amarbir Singh Rai (IPS). The delegation included SGPC Junior Vice-President Baldev Singh Kalyan, General Secretary Sher Singh Mandwala, Chief Secretary Kulwant Singh Mannan, executive committee members, senior officials, and legal adviser Advocate Amanbir Singh Siali.
According to the SGPC, the viral video allegedly shows the Chief Minister acting in a manner disrespectful to the widely revered images of the ten Sikh Gurus and the image of Sant Jarnail Singh Khalsa Bhindranwale. The SGPC alleged that the incident had hurt the religious sentiments of Sikhs across the world.
In its complaint, the SGPC also alleged that an attempt was made to suppress the matter by preparing a “fake forensic report” in connivance with certain officials. It claimed that an FIR has already been registered by Haryana Police at the DLF Police Station in Gurugram against the persons allegedly involved in that matter.
The SGPC has demanded that Punjab Police immediately register an FIR against the Chief Minister, conduct an impartial investigation, and initiate appropriate legal action in accordance with the law.
Speaking to reporters after submitting the complaint, SGPC Chief Secretary Kulwant Singh Mannan said the action was taken following a unanimous resolution passed during the SGPC’s general house meeting on June 27, 2026, authorising its executive committee to pursue legal action in the matter.
Mannan alleged that the issue concerns the religious sentiments of Sikhs worldwide and said the rule of law should be upheld through a fair investigation.
The Punjab Government and Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann had not responded to the SGPC’s allegations at the time of filing this report.
