Chandigarh/Morinda, July 3, 2026: Former Punjab Chief Minister and Congress MP Charanjit Singh Channi on Friday said senior party leaders had urged him to convey the sentiments and aspirations of the people of Punjab to the Congress high command.
In a post on X, Channi wrote, “Congress party leadership called on me at my residence and urged me to present the sentiments and aspirations of the people of Punjab before the High Command.”
The statement came after a meeting of senior Congress leaders at Channi’s residence in Morinda, where 26 leaders, including three sitting MLAs, several former ministers, former MPs and ex-MLAs, gathered amid growing discontent over the party’s recent organisational appointments in Punjab.
Earlier in the day, senior Congress leader Tript Rajinder Singh Bajwa said a delegation led by Channi would soon meet the Congress high command in New Delhi to seek a review of the party’s recent organisational decisions in the state.
Bajwa maintained that the group had no differences with the Congress high command and was seeking dialogue rather than confrontation. He said the delegation would apprise the central leadership of the concerns being expressed by party leaders and workers in Punjab.
The Congress recently retained Amarinder Singh Raja Warring as Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) president while appointing Channi as chairman of the party’s Campaign Committee as part of its organisational reshuffle ahead of the 2027 Punjab Assembly elections. Friday’s meeting in Morinda and Channi’s latest statement come amid continuing discussions within the Punjab Congress over those appointments.
