Seven mobiles recovered from Central Jail during search operation
Ferozepur, July 3, 2026: The alert jail staff at Central Jail, Ferozepur, recovered seven mobile phones during separate search operations conducted inside the prison premises over the past few days.
Besides banned items, 208 mobiles including recent 7 mobiles have been recovered during 2026 while an unprecedented record high of 649 mobile phones were recovered in 2025.
According to official records, Assistant Superintendent Jarnail Singh reported that during routine searches carried out in different barracks between June 20 and June 28, 2026, jail staff recovered seven mobile phones that had allegedly been concealed by inmates.
Following the recoveries, FIR has been registered at City Police Station, Ferozepur, under the relevant provisions of the Prisons Act and other applicable laws. The cases have been registered against under trial inmates Parsdeep Singh alias Raja, Taranvir Singh alias Ladi, Dharminder alias Bagga, Paramjit Singh and Harjit Singh and prisoners Baldev Singh and Amarjit Singh
Jail authorities have reiterated their commitment to maintaining strict security within the prison and stated that regular search operations will continue to curb the use of prohibited items inside the jail.
Investigations are underway with Sukhdev Singh, to ascertain how the prohibited devices were smuggled into the high-security prison.
Sources indicate that although prison authorities routinely register cases under the Prisons Act whenever mobile phones are recovered, detailed investigations into the origin of the devices and their use inside the jail are seldom pursued unless the matter attracts significant public or official attention.
Officials attribute this gap largely to an acute shortage of police personnel. Producing inmates on police remand involves considerable security arrangements and manpower, making it difficult to carry out thorough investigations. As a result, crucial questions about how prohibited mobile phones manage to evade both manual frisking and electronic security checks inside the prison often remain unanswered.
