BKU Dakaunda opposes Punjab's Land Pooling Policy, announces July 22 statewide protest

Barnala (Punjab), July 3, 2026: The Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) Dakaunda on Friday strongly opposed the Punjab Government’s reported move to revive the Land Pooling Policy and announced its participation in statewide protests on July 22 against the proposed India-US Bilateral Trade Agreement (BTA) and other Free Trade Agreements (FTAs).
The decisions were taken during the union’s monthly state-level meeting held at Tarkshil Bhavan, Barnala, under the chairmanship of BKU Dakaunda state president Boota Singh Burjgill.
Addressing the meeting, Burjgill and the union’s state general secretary Jagmohan Singh Patiala alleged that the Punjab Government was attempting to reintroduce the Land Pooling Policy with only minor changes after it had earlier been withdrawn following a prolonged farmers’ agitation led by the Samyukt Kisan Morcha.
They asserted that farmers would not allow the policy to be implemented, claiming it was essentially the same proposal in a different form.
The union also announced its opposition to the proposed India-US Bilateral Trade Agreement (BTA) and other Free Trade Agreements, alleging that such agreements could expose India’s agriculture, dairy sector and domestic markets to foreign competition.
The leaders claimed that these trade arrangements would primarily benefit multinational corporations and large corporate entities while adversely affecting farmers and the country’s economy. They also alleged that the Centre was not being transparent about the details of the proposed agreements.
Senior vice-president Gurmeet Singh Bhattiwal said that, in response to a call given by the Samyukt Kisan Morcha, farmers would hold protests across Punjab on July 22. As part of the agitation, toll plazas across the state will be made toll-free from 12 noon to 3 pm, while demonstrations will also be staged outside the residences of BJP leaders.
The union further announced that the death anniversary of Balkar Singh Dakaunda, the founding president of BKU Dakaunda, will be observed at the district level on July 13.
Several state office-bearers and district leaders, including state treasurer Ram Singh Matorda, assistant treasurer Daljinder Singh Alowal, Baldev Singh Bhai Rupa, Mahinder Singh Kamalpura, Karam Singh Ballial, Gurmel Singh, Darshan Singh Ugoke, Mahinder Singh Bhaini Bagha, Raj Mahinder Singh, Lachhman Singh Chak Alisher, Sikandar Singh Bhure, Jagmel Singh Sudhewal, Gurbachan Singh, Satvir Rai, Bhata Singh Markhai, and Jaswinder Singh Moga, attended the meeting.
