Chandigarh, July 6, 2026: Amid growing speculation of infighting and rebellion within the Punjab Congress, senior party leader and Member of Parliament Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa has publicly extended his support to former Punjab Chief Minister and MP Charanjit Singh Channi, signalling a show of unity within the party.
Randhawa shared photographs with Channi on his social media handles on Monday, accompanied by the message, “Unity is Strength.” The post has sparked fresh political discussion, with many viewing it as a significant statement amid the ongoing unrest within the state Congress unit.
The photographs featured several prominent Congress leaders from Punjab, including former Cabinet Minister Tripat Rajinder Singh Bajwa, MLA Barindermeet Singh Pahra, former Minister Bharat Bhushan Ashu, former Minister Razia Sultana, and MLA Pargat Singh, along with several other senior leaders.
The development comes days after a large gathering of Congress workers and leaders at Channi’s residence, which fuelled speculation about factionalism and internal differences within the Punjab Congress. The meeting had triggered political debate, with reports suggesting that voices of dissent were emerging within the party.
Against this backdrop, Randhawa’s public endorsement of Channi is being seen as a significant political message. By posting photographs with Channi alongside several senior Congress leaders, Randhawa appeared to underline the importance of unity within the party at a time when the Punjab Congress is facing questions over its internal cohesion.
Political observers believe the social media post also sends a signal to the Congress high command that several senior leaders continue to stand together despite speculation of divisions within the state unit.
