New Delhi, July 16, 2026 : The Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC) has written to Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi, urgently requesting the immediate restoration of the pilgrimage route through the Kartarpur Sahib Corridor. It has also urged the Prime Minister to make a formal announcement regarding the corridor's reopening during his upcoming visit to Punjab.
In a joint letter, DSGMC President Harmeet Singh Kalka and General Secretary Jagdip Singh Kahlon highlighted the profound spiritual and emotional connection that global Sikh pilgrims and the Guru Nanak Naam Leva Sangat share with Gurdwara Darbar Sahib, Kartarpur Sahib in Pakistan, where Guru Nanak Dev Ji spent the final 18 years of his life.
The daily pilgrimage through the corridor had been suspended on May 7, 2025, prior to Operation Sindoor. While expressing gratitude to the Union Government—specifically the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Ministry of External Affairs—for allowing four special Jathas (pilgrim groups) to visit Pakistan between November 2025 and June 2026, the DSGMC emphasized the need for a permanent resumption of daily travel.
They said that the we appeal to the Union Government to fully restore the daily pilgrimage route through the Kartarpur Sahib Corridor at the earliest. They said that we request that this be facilitated by completing all necessary security, administrative, and diplomatic protocols, allowing the Sangat to once again pay their obeisance seamlessly.
They further stated that a positive announcement by the Prime Minister during his Punjab visit on July 17 would bring immense joy and spiritual solace to millions of devotees worldwide who have been eagerly waiting to resume their daily pilgrimage.
