PIB issues clarification on viral video of Delhi-Amritsar-Katra Expressway

New Delhi, July 28, 2026: The Press Information Bureau's (PIB) Fact Check unit has dismissed as misleading a viral social media claim alleging that thermocol was used in the construction of the Delhi-Amritsar-Katra Expressway.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, PIB Fact Check clarified that the white material seen in the viral video is not thermocol, but a compressible filler installed at the expansion joint near the crash barrier and friction slab.
According to the clarification, the material is a non-load-bearing component used in compliance with Indian Roads Congress (IRC) Codes and Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) specifications. It is designed to accommodate the thermal expansion and contraction of the bridge structure.
PIB said the use of such filler material is a standard engineering practice and does not indicate any construction defect or compromise the structural safety of the bridge.
The fact-checking agency urged the public to rely only on official sources for verified information and avoid sharing unverified or misleading content on social media.
