MP Vikram Sahney announces campaign to mobilize 5 lakh Punjab youth against drugs
Sahney says Sun Foundation will encourage youth across Punjab to take anti-drug pledge under ‘Nasha Mukt Yuva Abhiyan’

New Delhi, August 2, 2026: Rajya Sabha MP Vikram Sahney on Sunday announced a campaign aimed at encouraging five lakh young people in Punjab to take a pledge against drug abuse as part of the Centre’s Nasha Mukt Yuva Abhiyan.
The announcement came after Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually launched the youth-focused anti-drug campaign linked to the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047. According to the organisers, the programme connected more than one crore young people across over 21,000 locations.
During the event, the Prime Minister called upon young people to take a pledge through the MyBharat platform to stay away from drugs and encourage others not to fall into substance abuse.
Speaking on the occasion, Sahney said his NGO, the Sun Foundation, would launch an awareness and pledge campaign across Punjab with the aim of mobilising five lakh young people against drug use.
He said around 5,000 young people from Delhi, along with participants from skill development and rehabilitation centres in Punjab, were connected with the programme through the Sun Foundation.
“The fight against drugs requires sustained public participation, particularly from young people. We will launch a campaign in Punjab under the leadership and vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to encourage five lakh youth to take a pledge against drug abuse and spread awareness among others,” Sahney said.
The Rajya Sabha MP said the Sun Foundation was currently running 12 drug rehabilitation centres in Punjab. According to him, the centres focus on rehabilitation and social reintegration through yoga, meditation, physical fitness, sports activities, skill development and livelihood-oriented training.
Sahney said the approach was aimed not only at helping people overcome substance dependence but also at equipping them with skills and opportunities to rebuild their lives.
The proposed campaign is expected to focus on youth participation, awareness and community engagement, with the anti-drug pledge forming a key part of the initiative.
The announcement comes amid continued concern over drug abuse in Punjab, where government agencies, civil society organisations and community groups have been working on prevention, treatment, rehabilitation and awareness programmes.
