Chandigarh: Govt Model High School Sector clinches gold in under-17 Girls’ Hockey tournament

Chandigarh, September 2, 2026: The girls’ hockey team of Government Model High School, Sector 42-B, Chandigarh, emerged victorious in the Hockey Under-17 Girls’ Tournament held as part of the Inter-School State Sports Tournament 2026-27.
In the final, the Sector 42-B team defeated Government Model High School, Sector 25, by a convincing 5-2 margin to secure the gold medal.
Preeti Singh, Isha and Yashika delivered impressive performances during the match. Yashika was particularly effective, keeping the opposition under sustained pressure with her attacking play and strong defensive efforts.
Earlier, Government Model High School, Sector 42-B had booked its place in the final after defeating Sri Guru Gobind Singh Senior Secondary School, Sector 35-B, in a one-sided encounter.
School Headmistress Suman and Team In-charge Dushyant Kumar (DPE) congratulated the players on their achievement.
Encouraging the students, Suman said, “Make sports an integral part of your life. If players practise with dedication every day, the day is not far when India will become the world champion in hockey once again.”
Dushyant Kumar also highlighted the importance of sports and regular practice in students’ lives. He thanked the Chandigarh Administration, saying that the increase in the sports scholarship scheme had given a significant boost to students’ interest in sports.
He also expressed gratitude to the hockey officials for successfully conducting the tournament.
