New Delhi, September 9, 2026: Senior Congress leader and former Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa on Wednesday said the appointment of Sachin Pilot as the party’s Punjab in-charge had created a positive atmosphere in the state and expressed confidence that Congress leaders would work together under his leadership.
Randhawa said he met Pilot in Delhi after the latter took charge as Punjab in-charge. He also highlighted the connection between Punjab and Rajasthan, noting that the two states share a close relationship.
“I met Sachin Pilot, who is now the Punjab in-charge. I had not come to Delhi since he took charge, so I met him today. Rajasthan and Punjab have a connection, and there is a certain bond between the two states,” Randhawa said.
He expressed confidence that Punjab Congress would now move forward in a stronger and more united manner.
“Punjab will now move forward well. All Congress leaders will work together and move ahead unitedly,” he said.
‘No one has asked for change in PCC’
Responding to questions about a possible change in the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) leadership, Randhawa said neither he nor former Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi, nor any other senior leader, had demanded such a change.
“Who said that the PCC should be changed? Neither I said it, nor Channi Sahib, nor any senior leader. Whoever has said it should be asked about it,” he said.
On when Sachin Pilot would visit Punjab, Randhawa said there was no confirmed date yet.
“I don’t know when he will come. Sachin ji has not told us, and Rahul ji has also not told us,” he said.
Randhawa added that decisions taken by the Congress high command were made after due consideration and would be respected.
“Whatever decision the high command takes is taken after careful consideration,” he said.
Randhawa calls for SGPC elections
Randhawa also spoke about the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC), saying elections to the body should be held. He further argued that political interference in the SGPC should be avoided and that political parties should not contest its elections using party symbols.
“SGPC elections should be held. There should be no political interference in the SGPC, and no political party should have an election symbol,” Randhawa said.
