Pathankot (Punjab), September 18, 2026: BJP national president Nitin Nabin on Friday hit out at the Punjab government over the alleged suicide of Dalit labourer Gulzar Singh, accusing the ruling establishment of ignoring the suffering of families affected by drug abuse.
Speaking at the launch of the BJP’s ‘Nasha Mukt Punjab Yatra’ in Pathankot, Nabin alleged that instead of meeting families who had lost loved ones to addiction, the government was failing to understand their pain.
Referring to Gulzar Singh’s case, Nabin alleged that the Dalit man was tortured and humiliated and was driven to suicide due to government “exploitation”. He further alleged that BJP leaders and workers were stopped when they went to meet Singh’s family.
“You do not have the strength to stop BJP leaders and workers,” Nabin said.
Nabin said the BJP would continue to raise the issue of drug abuse and the concerns of affected families in Punjab.
