Impartial probe needed to establish truth in Amarjit Singh Chawla case: Tarvinder Kaur Khalsa
International Sikh Council's humble appeal to Jathedar Sri Akal Takht Sahib

New Delhi, September 21, 2026: International Sikh Council president Bibi Tarvinder Kaur Khalsa has appealed to Jathedar Sri Akal Takht Sahib for an impartial examination of all documents, evidence and facts related to the case involving former Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) member Amarjit Singh Chawla.
Referring to the recent decision of Sri Akal Takht Sahib concerning Chawla, who has faced allegations of rape and has been excommunicated from the Sikh Panth, Bibi Khalsa said a serious matter should not be decided solely on the basis of the statement of one side or information circulating on social media.
She said that if there were earlier complaints, documents or other allegations connected with the matter, these should also be examined on the basis of facts and applicable legal procedures. She added that the statements of all parties involved should be considered impartially.
Bibi Khalsa said the principles of Gurmat emphasise truth, justice, impartiality and Chardi Kala. She argued that declaring anyone guilty without examining the complete evidence, or treating one side as entirely correct without hearing the other, would not reflect the principles of justice.
While expressing respect for the authority and institutional traditions of Sri Akal Takht Sahib, the International Sikh Council said it would respect any decision taken by the institution. At the same time, it appealed for any additional documents, evidence or other aspects of the case to be examined thoroughly.
The Council suggested that, if considered necessary, an impartial panel comprising retired judges, legal experts and experienced scholars could be constituted to examine the available evidence and hear the concerned parties. It said the matter could subsequently be reconsidered on the basis of the findings of such an inquiry.
Bibi Khalsa said the International Sikh Council’s objective was neither to support nor oppose any individual, but to seek the truth, uphold justice and maintain respect for Sikh institutions.
She said the credibility of any decision ultimately depends on impartiality, consideration of all relevant facts and the confidence of the Sikh community. She therefore appealed for the Amarjit Chawla case to be considered on the basis of facts, evidence, Gurmat and principles of justice rather than emotion.
“May truth prevail. May unity, justice and progress prevail in the Panth,” Bibi Khalsa said.
