E-Mulaqat facility available at DLSA Fazilka for virtual interaction with prisoners
Fazilka, September 21: The District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Fazilka, has been providing an e-Mulaqat facility through video conferencing to enable advocates, Legal Aid Defence Counsels and concerned parties to interact virtually with undertrials and prisoners lodged in various central, district and sub-jails across Punjab.
The facility is being provided under the directions of Justice Deepak Sibbal, Acting Chairman, Punjab State Legal Services Authority, SAS Nagar (Mohali), and Jagdeep Kaur Virk, In-charge Member Secretary, Punjab State Legal Services Authority. It is being operated under the guidance of K.K. Singla, In-charge District and Sessions Judge, Fazilka, and Ruchi Swapan Sharma, Secretary, DLSA Fazilka.
K.K. Singla said the primary objective of the facility is to facilitate timely legal consultation between advocates, Legal Aid Defence Counsels and parties concerned with cases, and prisoners lodged in different jails across Punjab.
He said the facility saves advocates and concerned parties the need to physically visit jails, as they can interact with prisoners through virtual mode from the office of DLSA Fazilka.
The facility is being provided free of cost. To avail of it, advocates, Legal Aid Counsels or representatives of prisoners are required to submit a written application in the prescribed format at the Front Office before the proposed date of the virtual meeting.
The entire process is being carried out in strict compliance with the High Court rules titled “The Use of Electronic Communication and Audio-Video Electronic Means Rules, 2026” (Correction Slip No. 202).
Singla appealed to advocates, Legal Aid Counsels, needy litigants and the general public to make maximum use of the facility available at the DLSA Front Office.
