Breaking: Banks to remain open on Sunday (Sept 27), ahead of nationwide strike

New Delhi, September 23, 2026: Public Sector Banks and Regional Rural Banks will remain open and function normally on Sunday, September 27, 2026, ahead of a proposed three-day nationwide bank strike from September 28 to 30.
The move has been taken to ensure that customers can access essential banking services despite the proposed strike and the preceding weekend holidays on September 26 and 27.
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has approved the continued operation of all bank branches, offices, ATM-linked branches and Currency Chests on September 27.
The proposed strike has been called by the United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU) from September 28 to 30, 2026.
The government and bank managements have appealed to the unions to defer the proposed strike and have taken measures to ensure that essential banking services remain uninterrupted.
The Department said the welfare and convenience of bank customers remains a priority. The decision was announced by the Department of Financial Services, Ministry of Finance, on September 23.
