Chitkara University Clarifies Reports of Suicide, Death at Girls’ Hostel as False

Chandigarh, September 26, 2026 : Chitkara University has clarified that reports circulating on social media about an alleged suicide and death at its Girls’ Hostel are false and have no factual basis.
The university, in a statement, said it had taken note of reels and social media posts making such claims and had verified the facts concerning the incidents. It categorically stated that no suicide or death had taken place at the Girls’ Hostel.
Clarifying an incident involving an ambulance at the hostel in the early hours of September 24, the university said the ambulance had arrived in connection with a student who had returned from hospital. The student, identified in the statement as Sachipreet Kaur, was brought back to the hostel at around 2:50 a.m. The university said there was no death or suicide associated with the incident.
The university also addressed social media posts regarding the presence of a “Pandit ji” at the Girls’ Hostel. It said his visit had taken place at around 3 p.m., but he had come to meet his daughter, who is a student at the university. According to the university, his presence had no connection with any alleged death or suicide.
Chitkara University urged students, parents, media organisations and the public not to rely on or circulate unverified reels, posts or messages on social media. It said spreading such content without verifying facts could cause unnecessary distress among students and their families and create an inaccurate impression of events on the campus.
The university said it remained committed to the safety, wellbeing and privacy of its students and maintained mechanisms to address genuine concerns. It added that it was taking note of the circulation of misleading content and would take appropriate steps wherever necessary to protect the interests of its students and the institution.
The university appealed to everyone to verify information through official and credible sources before sharing or amplifying claims, particularly those concerning the safety and wellbeing of students.
