Hamirpur (Himachal Pradesh), September 2, 2026: Panic gripped the Nadaun area of Himachal Pradesh’s Hamirpur district after a portion of an under-construction four-lane bridge collapsed during work on the Mataur-Shimla four-lane project on Friday.
The incident took place between Chilbhal and Masiyana, where a section of the bridge structure, along with construction material, plunged into a nearly 100-foot-deep ravine.
Three construction workers were reportedly injured in the accident after falling from the structure. One of them was said to be in critical condition. The injured workers were taken by ambulance to Hamirpur Medical College for treatment.
Several other workers were reportedly stranded on the opposite side of the collapsed section. Preliminary information suggested that around six workers may have been trapped, prompting an immediate rescue operation.
Police, district administration officials and teams associated with the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) reached the site after receiving information about the incident. Rescue personnel are working to reach the workers believed to be trapped amid the debris and remaining bridge structure.
The collapse triggered panic among workers at the construction site, with a large portion of the structure falling into the ravine.
Officials have not yet confirmed the cause of the collapse. Whether the incident was linked to a technical issue, construction-related factors or another reason will be established after an investigation.
The immediate priority of the administration is to rescue the trapped workers and provide medical assistance to those injured. Relief and rescue operations remain underway at the site.
