Fatehgarh Sahib (Punjab), October 2, 2026: A two-day march demanding the release of Sikh prisoners, known as Bandi Singhs, began from Sri Fatehgarh Sahib on Friday and is scheduled to reach Takht Sri Damdama Sahib on October 3.
The march has been organised by the Qaumi Insaaf Morcha and is being led by the Panj Piaras under the aegis of Sri Guru Granth Sahib. Representatives and supporters of various Sikh organisations, political parties, farmers’ organisations and human rights groups are participating in the march.

Shiromani Akali Dal (Punar Surjit) Senior Vice President Parminder Singh Dhindsa, who joined the march at Fatehgarh Sahib, said the release of the Bandi Singhs was a major Panthic issue and claimed that the entire Sikh community was united on it.
Speaking to reporters, Dhindsa alleged that Sikh prisoners were being treated differently under the legal system. Referring to the release of convicts in the Rajiv Gandhi assassination case, he claimed that several Sikh prisoners continued to remain in jail despite having served sentences far beyond their original terms.
He also questioned the alleged non-consideration of parole for such prisoners and said the march aimed to raise public awareness and put pressure on governments to address the issue.
The march will continue from Sri Fatehgarh Sahib to Takht Sri Damdama Sahib, where it is scheduled to conclude on October 3.
Several Sikh leaders, including Harinderpal Singh Chandumajra, Gurjit Singh Talwandi, Harvel Singh Madhopur, Randhir Singh Rakhra, Mandeep Singh Tarkhanmajra, Jaswant Singh Pudain, Bhupinder Singh Sekhupur, Advocate Ravinder Singh Shahpur and Tajinder Singh Pannu, were present at the start of the march.
