SAD urges all political parties to contest Assembly election on real issues facing Punjab

Chandigarh, October 3, 2026: The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) today urged all political parties to contest elections on real issues facing Punjab and avoid false and baseless charges or be ready to face legal action.
Addressing a press conference here, Chief Spokesman Arshdeep Singh Kler said the sub committee headed by Amardeep Singh Dharni would look into all baseless allegations aimed at indulging in character assassination on social media. Kler said “the twelve member sub- committee had been tasked with examinations all false allegations being spread on social media. “These allegations will be met head on and criminal defamation cases will be filed against all these indulging in spreading false rumours and malicious content”.
Mr Kler and Mr Dharni said SAD Chief Sukhbir Singh Badal had given clear instructions that all pages, websites, channels and other modes of media and social media should be examined by the committee on a regular basis. They also said that in coming days such teams would also be constituted at the district level. They also disclosed that Advocate Parmjit Singh Brar and Gurvir Singh Sidhu had been included as special invitees in this legal panel.
The lawyers also made it clear that in case any digital channel or broadcaster wanted to air any news of such type they should first get authorised reactions duly signed by concerned persons or their representatives.
They said Delhi based parties were in the habit of floating fake narratives and indulging in character assassination. “In the name of freedom of speech we cannot speak whatever we want against our political opponents. Such persons should be prepared to face notices and be subjected to criminal defamations”, the lawyers added.
Advocates Jaspreet Singh Brar, Ravi Rana, K.S. Matharu, Ravinder Singh Sampla, Puneetinder Singh Kang, Ramandeep Kaur Bhatthal, Manpreet Singh Dhaliwal, and Arshdeep Singh Saran were also present on this occasion.EOM
