Rain, snow likely in Himachal Pradesh till Oct 14; Thunderstorm warning for 3 districts

Shimla (Himachal Pradesh), October 8, 2026: Himachal Pradesh is likely to see another spell of unsettled weather, with rain expected in parts of the state till October 14 and light snowfall possible in higher reaches.
According to the Meteorological Centre, Shimla, light to moderate rain is likely at isolated places over the next few days, while higher-altitude areas may receive rain and light snowfall.
For October 8, the department has issued a thunderstorm and lightning warning for isolated areas of Kangra, Mandi and Sirmaur.
Snowfall Possible in Higher Reaches
Light rain or snowfall is likely in higher elevations on October 8 and 9. Rain is expected to continue in different parts of the state between October 10 and 14. The weather change is likely to bring a noticeable chill to high-altitude areas, particularly in Lahaul-Spiti, Kinnaur, Chamba and Kullu.
Kukumseri Coldest, Una Records Highest Temperature
Kukumseri recorded the state’s lowest minimum temperature at 2.3°C on October 8, while Una recorded the highest maximum temperature at 32.2°C.
Several areas received rain during the previous 24 hours. Jhanduta in Bilaspur recorded 3 cm of rainfall, Sarahan in Shimla received 2 cm, while Paonta, Shimla and Solan recorded 1 cm each. Hail was also reported in Shimla.
Rain, Snow May Make Mountain Roads Slippery
The changing weather could affect road conditions in higher and hilly areas. The Meteorological Department has advised people to exercise caution during thunderstorms and lightning and avoid open areas, trees and weak structures.
Tourists and motorists travelling through mountain areas have also been advised to remain alert, particularly near rivers, streams and landslide-prone stretches.
The department said there is no specific district-wise warning after October 9 at present, although rain may continue in different parts of Himachal Pradesh through October 14.
