Zirakpur (Punjab), October 14, 2026: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday staged a protest at Singhpura Chowk on the Ambala-Chandigarh highway, targeting the Bhagwant Mann government over the drug menace and the alleged deterioration of law and order in Punjab.
BJP leaders raised slogans against the state government and expressed concern over the killing of anti-drug activist Parwinder Singh Jhota in Mansa, alleging that the incident had heightened insecurity among people.
The protesters accused the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government of failing to control drug-related activities and maintain law and order in the state.
Hardeep Singh Saini, son of Punjab BJP OBC Morcha state vice-president Gurdarshan Singh Saini, said ensuring the rule of law and eliminating the drug trade were the government’s primary responsibilities.
He questioned the government’s performance over the safety of people’s lives and property and demanded an impartial investigation into Jhota’s murder, along with strict action against those responsible.
The BJP leaders also called for concrete measures to tackle the drug problem and improve law and order across Punjab.
Among those who participated in the protest were Mohali BJP district president Sanjeev Vashisht, general secretary Parminder Brar, Punjab BJP vice-president Ranjit Singh Gill and Mohali district OBC Morcha president Harpreet Singh Saini, along with other party leaders and workers.
The BJP leaders warned that their party would continue to raise public concerns and protest against the state government until effective steps were taken to improve law and order and curb drugs in Punjab.
