Shanty Conducts Surprise Checks at Ferozepur Civil Hospital, City Police Station
Also pays tributes to martyrs at National Martyrs Memorial Hussainiwala
Ferozepur, October 25, 2026: Punjab Human Rights Commission member and Padma Shri awardee Jatinder Singh Shanty conducted surprise inspections of the Civil Hospital and City Police Station here on Saturday morning, taking note of shortcomings in ambulance record-keeping, mortuary facilities and security at the non-functional Eye Hospital.
Shanty reached the Civil Hospital around 9 am and inspected its cleanliness and patient facilities. He expressed satisfaction over the improvement in sanitation compared to his previous visit, when several shortcomings had been observed.
During the inspection, he found deficiencies in the regular maintenance of records of the 108 ambulance service. The concerned authorities were asked to submit a report within a week. He also took note of the shortage of refrigerators in the mortuary for preserving dead bodies.
“I will send a report regarding these deficiencies to the Chief Secretary so that necessary corrective measures can be taken,” Shanty said.
The issue of thefts at the Eye Hospital, which has remained non-functional for a long time, was also brought to his notice. After seeking information from the SMO, Shanty said a notice would be issued to the concerned officer seeking details about the thefts, the reasons behind them and the action taken so far.
Shanty subsequently visited City Police Station, where he discussed a pending matter with SHO Sukhchain Mehta and directed him to resolve it at the earliest. He also inspected the lock-up, malkhana and washroom and directed the authorities to undertake necessary improvements.
The inspection came a day after Shanty held a public hearing at Zira. Members of the Punjab Human Rights Commission's Ferozepur Core Group, Gurnam Sidhu Gama, Narinder Singh Kesar and Gurnoor Brar, accompanied him during the visit.
Earlier, on October 24, Shanty had visited the National Martyrs Memorial at Hussainiwala and paid floral tributes to Shaheed-e-Azam Bhagat Singh, Shaheed Rajguru, Shaheed Sukhdev and freedom fighter B.K. Dutt. He paid homage to the martyrs and recalled their supreme sacrifices for the nation.
