To prevent the BJP from staking claim to form government in Karnataka, the Congress has announced to support JD (S) which has got 39 seats in triangular contest for 2018 assembly polls the trends of which are still pouring in.
Congress has so far been leading in 74 seats and put together their combined tally comes to 113, the magic mark needed to form government.
The BJP has been leading in 108 seats and emerging as the single largest party.
The Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad announced the support to JD (S) at a press conference.
Azad said the party had preliminary telephonic talk with both JD-S chief and former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda and his son and former Chief Minister. H.D. Kumaraswamy over government formation.
"They have accepted the offer," Azad said in the company of outgoing Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.
The Congress has offered CM's seat to JD (S) and support from outside.(with IANS inputs)
