Ludhiana (Punjab), March 7, 2025 – The long-awaited construction of four new bridges over the Sidhwan Canal has gained further momentum with the arrival of the second prefabricated steel structure at the construction site on Thursday.
This latest shipment, manufactured by Durga Engineering (Yamuna Nagar, Haryana), follows the first consignment delivered from New Life Infra (Kotkapura, Punjab), marking a crucial milestone in the project.
With the steel framework for two bridges now on-site, assembly work will commence soon, bringing the project closer to completion. Rajya Sabha MP Sanjeev Arora, who has been actively overseeing the progress, shared the update in a press release on Friday.
To ensure steady progress, Arora had recently dispatched a team along with NHAI officials to inspect both manufacturing facilities. Each bridge is expected to take about a month for installation.
The project, initiated following persistent efforts by Arora with the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), aims to address long-standing traffic congestion issues in the area.
Residents on both sides of Sidhwan Canal have been demanding these bridges for years, especially as South City’s rapid commercial and residential expansion has led to increased vehicular pressure.
Arora expressed optimism that the bridges will be operational by late April or early May, offering much-needed relief to commuters.
