Kala-Sona for Punjab: Save Water, Empower Farmers, Uplift Khet Mazdoors and Secure Our Youth’s Future: Sukhminderpal Singh Grewal Bhukhri Kalan
Ludhiana,1 November 2026: Sukhminderpal Singh Grewal Bhukhri Kalan, National Vice President of the Bhartiya Rashtrawadi Party (BRP) and Punjab Pradesh In-Charge, said that we will make every possible effort to bring poppy cultivation, known as “Black Gold,” in Punjab within a legal framework, obtain approval from the Central Government and explore its potential under strict supervision. Keeping farmers’ prosperity, the livelihoods of farm labourers, employment opportunities for youth and the conservation of Punjab’s groundwater at the forefront, we will strive to introduce new alternatives in agriculture.
Grewal said through his social media accounts, particularly X, that Punjab is our motherland. We are firmly committed to making it prosperous, drug-free, employment-rich and environmentally secure. We will not remain limited to political slogans but will fight for policies that deliver real benefits to farmers, farm labourers and ordinary rural families.
He said that we will promote agricultural diversification to reduce dependence on paddy cultivation, which requires large quantities of water. We will strive to ensure scientific assessments of the water requirements of alternative crops, their suitability to Punjab’s soil and climate, their income potential and their environmental impact. We will raise our voice to make groundwater conservation an important part of Punjab’s agricultural policy.
Grewal said that we will learn from the experiences of poppy cultivation under government licences in Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh. By studying the policies, licensing systems, procurement arrangements and monitoring mechanisms of these states, we will explore suitable pathways for Punjab.
He emphasised that we will also strive to make farm labourers equal partners in agricultural prosperity. We will raise our voice to ensure fair incomes for farmers, employment for labourers and opportunities for young people to progress in their own villages. We will work to create conditions in which no family has to suffer the pain of selling its ancestral land due to financial compulsion or sending its children abroad in search of employment.
Speaking about the BRP’s policy, Grewal said that after forming the government in Punjab, we will prioritise exploring the possibility of legally regulated poppy cultivation. We will work under a system of licences, crop records, inspections and monitoring to prevent any form of illegal use.
Grewal clarified that we will not allow any slackening in the fight against drugs. We will consistently raise our voice for strict action against drug traffickers and for strengthening awareness programmes, treatment facilities and rehabilitation services to protect young people from drugs. Our objective is to make Punjab drug-free and provide the new generation with a secure future.
Appealing to Punjabis living across the world, Grewal said that we will connect the Punjabi diaspora with efforts to strengthen Punjab’s agriculture, conserve water, introduce new technologies, promote agro-based industries and expand employment opportunities in villages. Rising above political differences, we will appeal to everyone to launch a united campaign to protect farmers, farm labourers, youth and Punjabi heritage.
Grewal said, “We will make every possible effort to ensure prosperity for Punjab’s farmers, support farm labourers, provide employment to our youth and conserve groundwater. We will promote serious, scientific and legal deliberations on ‘Black Gold’ and strive to obtain the necessary approvals. Let all Punjabis come together to strengthen our villages, give our youth new hope and work with determination to make Punjab prosperous, self-reliant, environmentally secure and drug-free. This is our promise: we will work in the interests of Punjab.”
