Amit Shah, Must Take Concrete Steps to Open Fourth SIT Report, Explore Anti-Addiction Vaccine Research, Permit Regulated Poppy Cultivation for Farmers and Break Drug Nexus: Sukhminderpal Singh Grewal Bhukhri Kalan
Chandigarh, October 21, 2026: Sukhminderpal Singh Grewal Bhukhri Kalan, National Vice President of the Bhartiya Rashtrawadi Party (BRP) and Punjab Pradesh In-charge, has urged Union Home Minister Amit Shah Ji to take concrete, time-bound measures during his visit to Punjab to tackle the growing drug menace in the state.
In his social media post, particularly on X, Grewal said the appeal had been made by Amlan Biswas Ji, National President of the Bhartiya Rashtrawadi Party, and the party’s central team. He stressed the need for decisive action to save Punjab’s youth, deliver justice to the people, create better opportunities for farmers and break the alleged nexus involving drug traffickers, gangsters, political leaders and corrupt officials.
Grewal demanded that all necessary legal steps be taken to ensure judicial consideration by the Punjab and Haryana High Court of the pending fourth Special Investigation Team (SIT) report concerning the drug trade in Punjab. He said anyone found guilty must face strict punishment under the law, regardless of their position, influence or political connections.
He also urged the Union Government to encourage Indian scientists to develop safe and effective treatments for heroin and ‘chitta’ addiction. Where scientifically feasible, research into a vaccine against addiction should also be encouraged. He emphasised the importance of drug prevention, evidence-based treatment and the rehabilitation of people affected by substance abuse.
Grewal further called for consideration of the possibility of permitting poppy cultivation in Punjab under applicable laws, with proper licences and strict monitoring. He said farmers must have access to better and sustainable income opportunities while ensuring that poppy cultivation does not become a source of illegal drug trafficking.
He also demanded a thorough investigation into the alleged nexus between drug traffickers, gangsters, political figures and police officials. Grewal said evidence-based action must be taken against major offenders, cases should be resolved within a stipulated timeframe, and officials found guilty of serious misconduct must face strict action in accordance with the law.
Grewal said Punjab is the sacred land of the Sikh Gurus, martyrs, farmers and soldiers. Its people deserve peace, justice and a secure future. Expressing concern over the devastating impact of drug addiction on young people and their families, he stressed that the government, society and all concerned institutions must work together with honesty and determination to overcome this crisis.
Appealing directly to Amit Shah Ji, Grewal said Punjab needs more than assurances; it needs visible results on the ground. He urged the Union Home Minister to make his Punjab visit a historic opportunity to protect the youth, support farmers, ensure accountability and take decisive action against the illegal drug trade.
Grewal said, “Punjab’s youth are our future, and protecting them from drugs is our collective responsibility. Punjab needs justice, accountability and sincere efforts so that we can work together to build a drug-free and prosperous Punjab.”
