Mohali (Punjab), January 27, 2026:In a major step towards sustainable urban governance, MLA Mohali Sardar Kulwant Singh will inaugurate Punjab Government’s flagship door-to-door segregated waste collection programme at the Municipal Corporation (MC) Mohali office on January 28, 2026, at 9 am.
The initiative mandates segregation of waste at source into wet, dry and hazardous categories by households and offices. The programme aims to significantly reduce mixed waste, expedite scientific processing and ensure seamless linkage of waste collection with Resource Management Centres (RMCs) and advanced facilities, including the 150-tonne processing plant at Jagatpura.
The drive also focuses on eliminating garbage vulnerable points (GVPs) and strengthening cleanliness through mechanical road sweeping and deployment of specialised vehicles operated by private contractors. The initiative is fully aligned with the Solid Waste Management Rules, 2016, and complies with directives issued by the National Green Tribunal (NGT) and the Punjab Pollution Control Board (PPCB).
As Punjab’s leading investment and urban growth hub—housing IT City, Aerocity, Medicity, the international airport corridor and premier educational and healthcare institutions—Mohali requires robust municipal systems to match its rapid development. The programme, guided by the Punjab Government’s 6R principle of refuse, reduce, reuse, recycle, redesign and research, is designed to serve as a model for other urban centres.
