Health dept launches SAANS program for prevention of pneumonia
Ferozepur, November 12, 2024: The Health Department keeping in mind the arrival of cold weather launched a campaign to prevent pneumonia under the 'SAANS' program. This campaign, which started on 12th November, will run till 28th February 2025, the main objective of which is to educate the children of 0-5 years at the village level. Every child has to be protected from this deadly disease. The event was launched by Dr Rajvinder Kaur, a Civil Surgeon by releasing the poster of the SAANS programme.
The Social Awareness and Action to Neutralize Pneumonia Successfully (SAANS) program is a health initiative launched by the Government of India's Ministry of Health and Family Welfare to reduce deaths from childhood pneumonia.
Giving a message to the people of the district to be health conscious, Civil Surgeon Dr Rajvinder Kaur said that pneumonia is the main cause of death of more than one lakh children every year across the country. Diseases occur and if we take a little awareness towards our own and children's health, If we pay attention, child mortality rate can be reduced to a great extent.
.Civil Surgeon Dr Rajvinder Kaur said that under the SAANS program, the health department is working from the block level to the village level to create awareness and the children suffering from pneumonia will be treated by the teams.
She said that the mother's milk is very important for the child because the child gets all the nutrients in the mother's milk. Nutritious food is provided and the child's strength to fight diseases increases. She said that for the health of the child, it is very important to get him vaccinated at the right time.
During this time Dr. Meenakshi District Vaccination Officer appealed to the people who smoke to avoid it and it should not be done near children at all. She said that while coughing or sneezing a person should cover his mouth with a handkerchief or tissue paper so that the droplets falling while sneezing may spread to someone else.
On this occasion Dr Sushma Thakkar Assistant Civil Surgeon, Dr Mandeep Kaur DFPO, Deputy Mass Media Officer Ankush Bhandari and Neha Bhandari, Paramveer Monga Superdent, and Vikas Kalra were present.
