Aichi-Nagoya [Japan], September 29, 2026: Indian athletics added another memorable chapter to its history at the Asian Games 2026. In the men's javelin throw, Yashvir Singh won the silver and Rohit Yadav the bronze, registering a double podium finish for India.
Yashvir not only won the silver medal but also set his personal best with a throw of 85.72 meters in his last attempt. Rohit Yadav won the bronze medal with a throw of 84.35 meters.
Sri Lanka's Rumesh Tharanga Pathirage won the gold medal with a giant throw of 88.55 meters, while Pakistan's Olympic champion Arshad Nadeem finished fourth with 80.29 meters.
Yashvir's explosion in the last throw
Yashvir started the competition with a throw of 83.56 meters. He remained in the medal race. Yashvir, who was in third place before the final round, threw the javelin 85.72 meters in his last attempt to clinch the silver.
This was better than his previous personal best of 85.41 metres from 2026. According to World Athletics, Yashvir is also the bronze medallist at the 2026 Commonwealth Games.
Rohit Yadav also did not miss the opportunity.
Rohit started with 77.25m, reached 82.40m in the second round and 84.35m in the third. His throw of 84.35m was enough for bronze despite a foul in the final attempt.
Two Indians on the podium in Neeraj's absence
This time, India's star javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra could not participate in the Asian Games. He was ruled out of the competition due to an ankle ligament injury and Yashvir Singh was included in the Indian team in his place.
Despite this situation, Yashvir and Rohit demonstrated the depth of Indian javelin throwing by achieving the double success of silver and bronze.
