IPS officer Tapan Kumar Deka's term as Intelligence Bureau Director extended

New Delhi, May 20, 2025 – The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved a one-year extension for Tapan Kumar Deka as Director of the Intelligence Bureau (IB). The senior IPS officer will now continue to lead the country’s premier internal intelligence agency beyond June 30, 2025, or until further orders.
Deka, a 1988-batch Indian Police Service officer from the Himachal Pradesh cadre, was initially appointed as IB chief in 2022.
