Gurugram to launch pilot project to become plastic-free model city

Gurugram (Haryana), May 31, 2025: As part of a public campaign, a pilot project will soon begin in Gurugram to make it a plastic-free model city.Specific areas in the city will be selected where various activities will be organized under the project.
Haryana Environment Minister, Rao Narbir Singh, is committed to this campaign and has been encouraging people through different platforms to adopt a plastic-free and eco-friendly lifestyle.
Additional Chief Secretary, of Environment, Forest, and Wildlife Department, Anand Mohan Sharan, held an important meeting in Gurugram today to review the preparations being made for this campaign.
During the meeting, Sh. Sharan appealed to officers to treat this project not just as a government initiative but with the spirit of a public movement.
He said that if we make the citizens participate, then this campaign can be successfully completed within the expected time frameCiting successful examples like Sikkim and Indore, he said Gurugram too can become a role model by following in their footsteps.
He also said that many non-governmental organizations (NGOs) have shown interest in actively supporting the campaign.Changing people's habits is the foundation of this mission – spreading awareness is essential.
He directed officers to use effective communication tools like posters, short videos, jingles, social media campaigns, street plays, and community meetings to raise awareness.
Along with this, special awareness programs should be organized at schools, colleges, resident welfare associations, malls, markets, offices of multinational companies and other public places. The real success of the campaign depends on changing public behavior i.e people giving up plastic, he added.
Member Secretary, Pollution Control Board, Sh. Pardeep Dagar, Additional Commissioner, Municipal Corporation Gurugram, Sh. Jitender Kumar and Sh. Mahavir Prasad, Joint Commissioner, Sh. Sumit Kumar, Sh. Vishal and Sh. Jaiveer Yadav, Forest Conservator Sh. Subhash Yadav and other officers also remained present during the meeting.
