Chandigarh, July 28, 2025 – From fake electricity bill threats to bogus KYC updates, lottery wins, and part-time job offers—cybercriminals are constantly evolving their tricks. But now, a new and more dangerous scam is making the rounds, directly targeting unsuspecting citizens through fake 'government-style' calls.
In this latest fraud, the victim receives a phone call—not a message or link—where a robotic or official-sounding voice warns: "Your mobile number will be deactivated in 2 hours." The urgency and fear created by this message often force people into panic, making them easy targets for the next steps in the scam.
This fear-based tactic is a calculated move by cybercriminals to gain access to sensitive personal data, bank details, or even remote control of your phone—potentially wiping out your savings in minutes.
Public Advisory:
- Do not share personal details or click on any links sent after such calls.
- Never trust calls claiming immediate action from government agencies without proper verification.
- Report such incidents to the national cybercrime portal: www.cybercrime.gov.in
