M/o Road Transport and Highways to launch special campaign for Cleaner, Safer National Highways from Oct 2

New Delhi, September 29, 2026: The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) will conduct Special Campaign 6.0 from October 2 to 31, focusing on improving cleanliness, safety and overall upkeep of National Highways and toll plazas across the country.
The campaign will include garbage removal along National Highways, particularly in urban areas, refurbishment and maintenance of toilet facilities at toll plazas and other locations, and improvements in the overall upkeep of toll plazas.
Other measures will include cleaning and painting toll plazas, improving lighting and solarisation, installing and upgrading road signage, enhancing the visibility of road markings and addressing potholes on National Highways.
The campaign will also focus on reducing pending work, improving record management, responsible disposal of e-waste and better utilisation of office space across organisations under the ministry.
The campaign is being implemented in two phases. The preparatory phase, which began on September 15, will continue until September 30 and involves identifying targets and preparing for cleanliness drives, disposal of obsolete items and other activities planned for the main campaign.
As part of the initiative, the ministry has identified a 50-km National Highway stretch, including a toll plaza, for focused intervention. Officers from the ministry headquarters will inspect the selected stretches, identify deficiencies and geo-tag them for monitoring and corrective action.
The officers will also track the progress of rectification work and monitor improvements in cleanliness, road safety and overall maintenance throughout the campaign.
MoRTH has directed its headquarters, regional offices, programme implementation units, programme directors and other field offices to undertake coordinated efforts to achieve visible and sustainable improvements.
Nodal officers have been appointed across organisations under the ministry to coordinate implementation and report progress. The Joint Secretary (Coordination) has been designated as the nodal officer for overall coordination of Special Campaign 6.0.
The ministry said the campaign’s progress will be reviewed regularly by the Joint Secretary (Coordination), while the Secretary, MoRTH, will monitor the preparatory phase during weekly senior officers’ meetings.
The ministry said the campaign aims to create cleaner, safer and better-maintained National Highways and toll plazas, while also improving administrative efficiency and workplace practices across its organisations.
