How many Indians deported from US since January 2025? MEA reveals

New Delhi, August 1, 2025 – Between January 20 and July 22, 2025, a total of 1,703 Indian citizens were deported from the United States, the Ministry of External Affairs informed on Friday.
In a written response to a Lok Sabha question, Minister of State for External Affairs Kirti Vardhan Singh shared that the deportees comprised 1,562 men and 141 women.
The majority of those returned were from Punjab (620), Haryana (604), Gujarat (245), and Uttar Pradesh (38)These deportations took place through various means, including U.S.
Customs and Border Protection military flights, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) charter planes, Department of Homeland Security (DHS) flights, and commercial flights from Panama and the U.S. Singh also stated that India had raised concerns with U.S. authorities over how some deportees were treated.
“We have firmly conveyed our concerns about the use of physical restraints, particularly involving women and children,” he said.
He further highlighted that issues around cultural and religious practices—such as wearing turbans or accessing specific dietary requirements—had also been brought to the attention of American officials. Notably, no complaints have been lodged since February 5, 2025.
