100-Vehicle Rally by Ferozepur lawyers against LADC Policy; Nationwide ‘No Work’ stir call
Ferozepur, July 28, 2026: Raising their voice against the Legal Aid Defense Counsel (LADC) policy, lawyers of Ferozepur today took out a protest march with a convoy of around 100 cars and motorcycles as part of the indefinite ‘No Work’ agitation being observed by bar associations in Punjab.
The protest march started from the District Courts and passed through Udham Singh Chowk, Namdev Chowk, Bagi Road, Gobind Nagri, Burt Road and the Railway Station before reaching the Deputy Commissioner’s office at Ferozepur Cantt. The lawyers and clerks later returned to the District Courts.
The Joint Action Committee of Bar Associations of Punjab, Haryana and UT Chandigarh has appealed to all bar associations, High Court Bar Associations and the entire legal fraternity across the country to join the nationwide ‘No Work’ movement against the LADC policy and continue the struggle until the policy is withdrawn.
Bar associations across Punjab have been observing an indefinite ‘No Work’ strike since July 7, while bar associations in Haryana have also extended their full solidarity to the agitation.
According to the Joint Action Committee, the LADC policy is being opposed on the grounds that it is allegedly contrary to the constitutional and legal framework governing the legal profession and undermines the independence, dignity and ethical principles of legal practice. The committee also maintains that the policy could adversely affect the quality and independence of legal representation and harm the independent private legal profession, which it described as an important pillar of the justice system.
The committee said the issue was not confined to Punjab or any particular state but concerned the future of the legal fraternity across the country. It appealed to all bar associations to unite and participate in the nationwide movement.
