ABVP wins three of four DUSU posts; Nitin Nabin hails victory

New Delhi, September 19, 2026: The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) won three of the four key posts in the Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) elections on Saturday, with Yash Dabas elected President, Riya Chhawdi Secretary and Lakshya Raj Singh Joint Secretary. Independent candidate Deepanshu Shokeen won the Vice-President post.
Dabas won the presidential election with 24,576 votes, defeating National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) candidate Vijay Shankar Meena, who polled 22,523 votes. Chhawdi secured 21,650 votes for the Secretary post, while Lakshya Raj Singh won the Joint Secretary election with 16,615 votes. Shokeen won the Vice-President post with 30,615 votes.
Reacting to the results, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) National President Nitin Nabin congratulated ABVP and the newly elected representatives, saying the outcome reflected what he described as the youth’s continued faith in “positive and constructive student politics”.
In a post on X, Nabin said the victory reflected the students’ support for politics rooted in the “Nation First” approach and their resolve to contribute to the vision of a ‘Viksit Bharat’.
He extended his best wishes to the victorious candidates and those who worked for their campaigns.
After his victory, DUSU President-elect Yash Dabas said his immediate priority would be safety audits of paying guest accommodations, hostels and colleges, citing concerns arising from the recent Satya Niketan building collapse.
The DUSU campaign had focused on student concerns including accommodation, campus safety, infrastructure, academic facilities and social justice. Polling was held on September 18 across 52 polling centres, with a voter turnout of 40.46 per cent, according to election reports.
The results were declared after 20 rounds of counting on Saturday.
