Ludhiana (Punjab), September 19, 2026: BJP leader and former Union Minister Ravneet Singh Bittu staged a protest outside the Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) in Ludhiana on Saturday as Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s convoy passed through the area.
Bittu stood near Gate No. 8 of PAU carrying a liquor bottle, eggs and tomatoes. He waved the liquor bottle towards Mann’s vehicle and described it as a “return” after he alleged that eggs and tomatoes had been thrown at his convoy near Batala a day earlier.
As the Chief Minister’s cavalcade passed, Bittu also attempted to throw tomatoes towards the convoy, according to reports. Police personnel present at the spot intervened and prevented him from moving closer to the cavalcade.
Bittu said the eggs and tomatoes were being returned in response to the previous day’s incident, when he alleged that his convoy was targeted while he was travelling to Pathankot for the BJP’s ‘Nasha Mukt Punjab Yatra’. The Aam Aadmi Party has denied involvement in that incident.
Following the protest, Punjab Police detained Bittu and took him away from the PAU premises. The detention took place as Mann arrived at PAU for a scheduled programme.
Speaking to reporters before his detention, Bittu said the BJP would continue to hold protests against the Punjab government and its leaders, describing his action as a response to the alleged attack on his convoy.
The incident came a day after Bittu alleged that eggs and stones were thrown at his convoy near Batala. He had accused AAP supporters of being behind the incident, while the allegations have not been independently established.
The back-to-back incidents have intensified the political confrontation between the BJP and the ruling AAP in Punjab.
