Amritsar bans drone flying near Airport amid security concerns

Amritsar (Punjab), July 10, 2025: In a major security move, the Amritsar administration has imposed a complete ban on flying drones around Sri Guru Ram Dass Jee International Airport. The order, issued with immediate effect, prohibits any civilian use of drone cameras in the surrounding rural areas of the airport.
Ban Imposed Under Section 163 of BNSS Act
The order was passed by Additional District Magistrate Amandeep Kaur under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), 2023, citing security agency inputs and potential threats to public safety.
The administration clarified that use of drones during weddings or events at hotels and marriage palaces located in nearby villages is now illegal. Authorities believe that such gatherings could be misused by anti-social elements to carry out serious threats under the guise of celebration.
Given the constant flow of domestic and international flights at the airport, any unauthorized drone activity is seen as a major risk to aviation safety. The ban aims to eliminate any interference with air traffic and protect critical infrastructure.
Officials have warned that any violation of this order will invite strict legal action. The ban comes into immediate effect and will remain in force until further notice.
