In a decisive move to uphold accountability, Chandigarh Municipal Corporation (CMC) Commissioner Amit Kumar, IAS, has taken stringent action against officers found negligent in their duties. A junior engineer has been suspended for violating parking fee regulations, while show-cause notices have been issued to an executive engineer and a sub-divisional engineer for their roles in the lapse.
**Officers Involved in the Disciplinary Action**
- **Manoj Kumar**, Junior Engineer (B&R Wing) – Suspended with immediate effect.
- **Anurag Bishnoi**, Executive Engineer (Road) – Issued a show-cause notice.
- **Akhil Dhiman**, Sub-Divisional Engineer – Issued a show-cause notice.
**Details of the Incident**
The action stems from a surprise inspection conducted by Commissioner Amit Kumar near the Smart City Office in Sector 17, Chandigarh. The inspection revealed that vehicles were entering and exiting the parking lot without proper checks, resulting in a clear breach of parking fee regulations. Attributing the oversight to negligence, the Commissioner promptly suspended Junior Engineer Manoj Kumar. Additionally, Executive Engineer Anurag Bishnoi and Sub-Divisional Engineer Akhil Dhiman have been directed to submit written explanations within three days, failing which further disciplinary measures will be initiated.
**A History of Firm Action**
This is not the first instance of the Commissioner cracking down on inefficiency. Previously, several outsourcing sub-inspectors were relieved of their duties due to similar lapses. The latest measures have sent a strong message, creating unease among officers with a record of negligence or corruption.
**Commissioner’s Statement**
Reaffirming his zero-tolerance policy, Commissioner Amit Kumar stated, “Indiscipline and corruption have no place in the Municipal Corporation. Any officer or employee found flouting regulations or neglecting their responsibilities will face strict consequences.”
The CMC administration remains committed to ensuring compliance and enhancing operational efficiency across all levels.
