Faridkot, March 20 –
Under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, the Punjab government has launched the "War Against Drugs" campaign. To implement this initiative at the grassroots level, raise awareness about drug prevention, and ensure the rehabilitation of drug addicts, Deputy Commissioner Madam Poonamdeep Kaur held a special meeting with officials from various departments today. Present at the meeting were SDM Jaito Shri Suraj, GA Madam Tushita Gulati, Gurkarandeep Singh Sidhu, and other officials.
During the meeting, Deputy Commissioner Poonamdeep Kaur directed all department officials to actively participate in the campaign to eradicate drugs from the root. She emphasized that, as per the directives of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, every department—whether police or civil administration—should contribute to making Punjab a prosperous state once again.
The Deputy Commissioner inquired about the concrete steps taken by the health department for drug de-addiction and the rehabilitation of recovered individuals. She instructed that every necessary measure should be taken to ensure the well-being of youth, including starting yoga classes. She also directed the education department to conduct seminars in schools and colleges to educate students about the harmful effects of drugs. Additionally, she reviewed the recent actions taken by the police department in this regard.
She further instructed that drug-affected individuals should be admitted to rehabilitation centers, and relevant departments, including the employment department, should provide them with job opportunities and means for reintegration into society. She stressed that awareness campaigns should be conducted in educational institutions, villages, and cities to inform people about the negative effects of drugs. She also urged panchayats to report individuals involved in the drug trade to the police and to pass resolutions for the social boycott of such anti-social elements.
The Deputy Commissioner also emphasized that private rehabilitation centers should be regularly inspected, and the quality of medicines and facilities provided to patients should be monitored. She directed drug inspectors to conduct regular checks on medical stores. She further stressed the importance of counseling for the families of drug-affected individuals. Additionally, the District Sports Officer was instructed to promote sports activities in villages and cities to encourage people towards a healthier lifestyle.
She direct all departments to make dedicated efforts at their respective levels to curb drug abuse and steer the youth towards a positive path.
Present at the meeting were Civil Surgeon Dr. Chander Shekhar Kakkar, Project Director Dr. Amandeep Keshav, Agriculture Development Officer Lakhveer Singh, and officials from various departments.
