ADEO meets political parties to strengthen voter registration & transparency
Ferozepur, March 20, 2025: To enhance the electoral process, Additional Deputy Commissioner-cum-District Election Officer Dr. Nidhi Kumud Bambha held a special meeting with representatives of various political parties. During the meeting, discussions were held on ensuring a smooth election process and addressing potential challenges during voting.
Dr. Kumud emphasized the appointment of Booth Level Agents (BLA) by all political parties to facilitate voter registration and streamline the election process. She also reviewed voter registration in the district’s four assembly constituencies, including gender ratio, EP ratio, and the enrollment of 18-19-year-old first-time voters.
ADEO directed election officials to conduct special Systematic Voters' Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) activities to raise awareness about voter registration, especially among youth who have turned 18. She stressed the collaboration between Booth Level Officers (BLOs) and BLAs to maximize voter registration and encouraged awareness camps in schools and colleges.
Furthermore, officials discussed various electoral issues in line with the guidelines of the Chief Electoral Officer, Punjab, including voter list revisions, EP ratio, gender ratio, and the resolution of voter registration forms.
Tehsildar (Elections) Amandeep Singh informed that the Election Commission of India (ECI) has introduced a toll-free number, 1950, for the public to inquire about voter lists, provide suggestions, or lodge complaints regarding voting-related issues. In addition, voters can access online services via the ECI portal (ngsp.eci.gov.in) for voter card-related queries and complaints.
Political party representatives were encouraged to share their suggestions regarding the upcoming assembly elections with the concerned election registration officer. They were also advised to reach out to the District Election Office in case of any election-related concerns.
During the meeting, all recognized political parties were provided with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) issued by the central election office, including key provisions from Articles 324 to 329 of the Indian Constitution, the Representation of the People Act (1950 & 1951), and the Conduct of Election Rules (1961).
The meeting was attended by Election Kanungo Gagandeep Kaur, officials from various departments, and representatives of political parties.
