Food Safety Wing tightens checks during festive season in Ferozepur
10 of 25 food samples fail quality test
Ferozepur, August 9, 2026: With the festive season witnessing an increase in the consumption of milk, paneer, sweets and other food products, the Food Safety Department has intensified inspections across Ferozepur district to curb adulteration and ensure food safety.
During the ongoing campaign, the department collected 25 samples of various food products, of which 10 failed the prescribed quality tests while reports of 15 samples are still awaited. The department has initiated action in cases where samples were found to be substandard.
Food Safety Officer Abhinav Khosla said that inspections were being conducted at food establishments, particularly those involved in the preparation and sale of milk products and sweets. During an inspection at a chicken centre in Ferozepur Cantonment, serious shortcomings relating to cleanliness and sanitation were detected. The officials also found oil being reused for frying and directed the establishment to improve its hygiene arrangements.
In Jalalabad, three paneer samples collected by the department failed the quality tests. According to officials, one sample each had been collected from Jalalabad and Mamdot, while another sample was taken from a location in Jalalabad. The matter has been brought to the notice of senior officials for appropriate action.
The department has also issued notices to five food businesses and warned them against preparing milk and milk products using adulterated or substandard ingredients. Officials said strict action would follow if violations were repeated.
Khosla said special attention was being paid to milk, paneer, khoya, sweets and other dairy products as their consumption rises sharply during the festive season. He urged consumers to remain vigilant while purchasing food items and check the FSSAI licence/registration details, manufacturing and expiry dates, ingredients and other mandatory information on packaged products.
Consumers suspecting adulteration or poor quality can lodge complaints with the Food Safety Department through the FSSAI Food Safety Connect portal or mobile application. The department can also collect samples for testing on receiving complaints.
Officials reiterated that food businesses must maintain clean premises, ensure safe storage, use clean equipment and comply with prescribed food-safety standards. The department has given a 15-day period for improvement to establishments where deficiencies were detected and warned that failure to comply could invite further action under food-safety regulations.
