IPS officer Sunil Jha promoted to DG rank
Assigned top post in Home Guards and Fire Services

Patna (Bihar), June 16, 2025: The Central Government has promoted senior IPS officer Sunil Kumar Jha, a 1993-batch officer currently on central deputation, to the rank of Director General (DG).
He has been appointed as the Director General of Fire Services, Civil Defence, and Home Guards, as per a notification issued by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC), under the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions.
Prior to his promotion, Jha was serving as an Additional Director General (ADG) in the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF).With this elevation, he will now be heading one of the key departments responsible for managing disaster response, fire safety, and community-based defence services.
Alongside his promotion, the ACC has also empanelled two more senior IPS officers for the rank of ADG:
- Nayyar Hasnain Khan, a 1996-batch officer of the Bihar cadre, and
- Omendra Nath Bhaskar, a 1997-batch IPS officer.
The empanelment makes both Khan and Bhaskar eligible for appointments in ADG-level posts across various central and state departments.
