Phillaur (Jalandhar), July 8, 2025 –
In a proactive measure to bolster disaster preparedness, the District Administration of Jalandhar, in collaboration with the Indian Army, conducted a comprehensive flood protection exercise on Tuesday at Talwandi Khurd village, situated along the banks of the Sutlej River.
The drill was held under the leadership of YSM Commander Brigadier S. Chatterjee, with participation from NDRF, SDRF, Punjab Police, Home Guards, the Health Department, Fire Brigade, and Red Cross Society.
Deputy Commissioner Dr. Himanshu Aggarwal said that the primary objective of the mock exercise was to enhance inter-departmental coordination and test the preparedness of all agencies involved in emergency response. Teams simulated rescue and relief operations, including boat evacuations and aerial rescue drills using helicopters, to demonstrate their readiness for real-time flood situations.
Dr. Aggarwal emphasized that such exercises are critical to ensure effective response, minimize loss, and raise public awareness in the event of natural calamities. He assured the public that the flood situation in the district remains completely normal and that there is no need to panic.
“The Jalandhar administration is fully prepared with all precautionary arrangements in place. Our goal is to protect lives and property and respond swiftly to any eventuality,” the Deputy Commissioner added.
SDM Lal Vishwas Bains and other senior officials from the Army and District Administration were present during the drill, which also included a demonstration on rescuing stranded individuals and providing medical aid during simulated flood emergencies.
