Mohali, July 31, 2025 —
A Mohali court has scheduled August 1 as the next date for hearing the bail application of senior Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader Bikram Singh Majithia, currently lodged in New Nabha Jail, Patiala. The hearing comes in connection with a disproportionate assets case against him.
On Wednesday, the court conducted a session lasting over four hours, during which lawyers from both sides presented their arguments. Following this, the prosecution requested the court to defer further arguments to the next hearing date.
Majithia’s defense team alleged that the government is engaging in delay tactics to stall the bail proceedings. Furthermore, the lawyers submitted an application seeking permission for live streaming the court hearings to ensure transparency.
Separately, the court has fixed August 2 to hear Majithia’s plea for a change of barracks.
Majithia was arrested on June 25 by the Punjab Vigilance Bureau for allegedly accumulating assets disproportionate to his known sources of income. The case is ongoing, with the judicial custody of the accused extended until August 2.
Meanwhile, leaders from SAD continue to support Majithia, with a delegation recently visiting him in jail, amid concerns raised by his family about restricted access.
The upcoming hearings are being closely watched, given the political significance of the case
