Pakistan farmers mapping out ‘India-like’ Kisan movement
New Delhi, February 26, 2021: As the ongoing farmers’ agitation against three farm bills in India continues to receive International attention and support, it appears that the movement has certainly motivated farmers in the neighboring country Pakistan, to stand up for their rights.
It has been learned that the leaders representing various farmer unions in Pakistan held a meeting this week where long-pending issues being faced by farmers were raised and the roadmap for launching India’s Kisan Morcha like movement was also planned during the meeting. The leaders however didn’t reveal the date for launching the movement. Though it is expected that the farmers will launch in movement in March
Some of the demands that Pakistani farmers are likely to raise before the government include fixing minimum support price for various crops, providing subsidized seeds, fertilizers. The farmers in neighboring country are also planning to demand power subsidy.
The rise in inflation in Pakistan and also the Covid-19 pandemic that brought the world to its knees last year has an adverse impact on the agriculture sector of the country, leaving the farmers with no choice but to plan a movement with the hope with government will pay attention to their demands and agitation will bring out positive results.
