  Kolkata, West Bengal, May 8, 2026: Senior BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari was on Friday elected leader of the BJP Legislature Party in West Bengal, paving the way for him to become the state’s first Chief Minister from the Bharatiya Janata Party.
  
  The decision was taken during a meeting of newly elected BJP MLAs after the party secured a historic victory in the West Bengal Assembly elections.
