New Delhi, February 18, 2022: A delegation of prominent Sikhs of India led by Singh Sahib Giani Ranjit Singh, Jathedar Takhat Sri Patna Sahib met the Prime Minister Sh. Narendra Modi at his New Delhi residence expressed their gratitude for the commendable works done for the Sikh Community worldwide.
The delegation thanked PM for declaring the day of the sacrifice of Chotte Sahibzade (younger Sons of Guru Gobind Singh Ji) as 'Veer Baal Divas'.
They urged PM to sanction the Establishment of a centrally funded Sikh Minority University in Delhi, the establishment of Medical cum Nursing College at Gurdwara Bala Sahib, New Delhi, Baba Banda Singh Memorial, Partition Memorial in Delhi, and inclusion of History of Chaar Sahibzaade in the syllabus of NCERT.
Harmeet Singh Kalka, President, DSGMC while addressing the PM and Media appreciated Modi Government for the commendable works done for the welfare of the Sikh community particularly constituting SIT for providing justice to 1984 Sikh victims it was because of his efforts that Sajjan Kumar is in jail and Kamalnath and Jagdish Tytler are in line. He also handed over a memorandum to PM Modi demanding a Sikh University in Delhi, a medical and nursing college at Gurdwara Bala Sahib, a 1947 partition memorial in Delhi and Baba Banda Singh memorial, etc.
Jagdip Singh Kahlon, General Secretary, DSGMC praised PM Modi for the numerous remarkable works done for the entire Sikh community such as compensation to 1984 Sikh Genocide victim families, Opening of Kartarpur Sahib Corridor, elimination of blacklist of Sikhs, the release of Sikh political prisoners, a celebration of birth anniversaries of Sikh Gurus on large scale, etc.
Kahlon further said that a Sikh University in Delhi is a long pending demand of the Sikhs which should be fulfilled at the earliest. DSGMC also demanded the 1947 partition and Baba Banda Singh memorials in Delhi. Sikhs have a lot of expectations from PM Modi.
Sikh scholar Tarlochan Singh while addressing the PM, demanded that two-minute silence (Moun Vrat) should be observed in the Parliament in remembrance and paying homage to innocent Sikhs massacred in the 1984 Sikh Genocide
While addressing to the Sikh delegation, PM Modi said I have high regards for the Sikh community and impressed with the services rendered by the community towards the humanity during the Covid pandemic. Modi informed the delegation that he took personal interest to preserve Gurdwara Lakhpat Rai Ji at Gurjrat while he was CM of Gujarat.
He said he never misses an opportunity to pay obeisance at Gurdwara Sahib wherever I go. He said his Government is willing to do more work for the Sikh community. He assured that he will consider their demands.
