Chandigarh, April 15, 2025: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has intensified its efforts to completely eradicate drugs from Punjab. In a major initiative on Tuesday, the party announced the formation of a dedicated committee, 'Nasha Mukti Morcha', and launched a comprehensive awareness campaign against drug abuse by dividing Punjab into five strategic zones.
Punjabi actress and AAP leader Sonia Mann has been appointed as the coordinator for the Majha Zone. Nayan Chhabra has been appointed for Doaba, Jagdeep Jagga for Malwa East, Chuspinder Singh Chahal for Malwa West, and Sukhdeep Singh Dhilwan for Malwa Central Zone. Senior party leader Baltej Pannu has been appointed as the chief spokesperson for the Awareness Campaign Committee.
AAP Punjab President Aman Arora addressed the media about this matter alongside the committee members. Arora stated that the Aam Aadmi Party is committed to eliminating drugs from Punjab.
"Our fight will continue until drugs are completely eradicated from Punjab," he said.
Arora highlighted the unprecedented success of the AAP government's "War Against Drugs" campaign. Thousands of drug traffickers and criminals have been arrested, FIRs have been filed against many, and numerous properties built on illegally occupied land have been demolished.
He explained that the government has been working on a dual strategy to curb both the demand and supply of drugs.
On one hand, strict action has been taken against drug traffickers, and on the other, drug addicts have been provided excellent treatment at de-addiction centers and extended all forms of support to help them recover from addiction.
Now, the party is launching this awareness campaign. Under this campaign, committee members will reach out to every household in Punjab to spread awareness against drugs.
Arora also announced that an official platform will be established to regularly share updates related to the campaign. This platform will provide details about the committee's work and results. He extended his best wishes to all committee members and expressed confidence in their success in fulfilling this mission.
Arora further mentioned that the party's National Convenor, Arvind Kejriwal, had recently announced in Ludhiana that in the coming days, he, along with Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, all cabinet ministers, MLAs, and party leaders and workers, would visit villages to conduct awareness campaigns.
From Punjab to Canada, I’ve fought against drugs for 15 years, fortunate to be a part of this committee - Baltej Pannu
Speaking to the media, Baltej Pannu stated that no campaign could be deemed successful until it ensures public participation. The primary aim of this campaign is to involve as many people as possible so that it transforms into a mass movement.
Pannu shared, "I have worked against drugs for nearly 15 years, spreading awareness in Punjab, Canada, and Australia. I’ve participated in debates on this issue at various platforms and provided my suggestions. In Punjab, we also launched the 'Zindagi Zindabad' campaign against drugs.
