Minister Dr. Baljit Kaur emphasizes public support in Punjab’s war against drugs during visit to Malout

Malout/Sri Muktsar Sahib, May 21, 2025: Cabinet Minister Dr. Baljit Kaur reaffirmed the Punjab Government’s unwavering commitment to its "War Against Drugs" mission during her visit to the Drug De-addiction Centre at Civil Hospital, Malout.
She credited the transparent intentions and firm policies of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann’s government for the growing public support behind the anti-drug campaign.
During her visit, Dr. Kaur also inaugurated the work of laying interlocking tiles in the streets of Ward No. 3 of Malout city.
Addressing officials, she emphasized the need to strengthen rehabilitation programs through skill development courses, yoga sessions, and sports activities.These, she said, are essential for helping individuals recover and reintegrate into society with confidence.
Dr. Kaur stressed the importance of early awareness and directed education department officials to intensify anti-drug awareness efforts in schools, enabling students to understand and resist the lure of drugs from a young age.
Interacting personally with patients at the de-addiction centre, Dr. Kaur offered them encouragement and assured them of full support under the state’s ongoing rehabilitation initiatives.
She highlighted that around 70 patients receive treatment monthly at the Malout centre, and efforts are ongoing to further enhance its services.
She also underlined the government's broader strategy to shield rural youth from drug abuse, stating that libraries, playgrounds, gyms, and parks are being developed in villages across Punjab.
In addition, she urged Health Department officials to promote healthy eating habits and instructed drug inspectors to maintain strict surveillance over chemist shops to prevent illegal sales of narcotics.
Dr. Kaur’s visit reaffirmed the government’s proactive approach in tackling drug abuse while emphasizing the importance of community participation, awareness, and holistic rehabilitation for lasting change.
